Rahul Dev Burman: Heeralaal Pannalaal (1978)

Heeralaal Pannalaal

I think I may have replied to a comment at one point, saying I didn't have 'Heeralaal Pannalaal'. If so I was wrong, as I do.

And it's good. 'Kis Ne Dekha Hai Kal' is the choice cut; funky RD laced with easy listening strings - nifty! (Take a look at the video clip... I reckon Zeenat Aman is drop dead gorgeous an' all, but her dancing here is a bit naff isn't it? Or is that just me?)

'O Padosan Ki Ladki' is another contender, with a cool backbeat. 'Kahiye Kahan Se Aana Hua' has a moogy intro and nice breaks, if nothing else. 'Aaja Mere Pyar Aaja' is a more traditional version of 'Kis Ne Dekha...' and apparantly the last ever song Hemant Kumar recorded, so worth checking.

Prime Burman.

Track listing:
1. R.D. Burman, Asha Bhosle & Chorus: Kis Ne Dekha Hai Kal
2. Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle: Dhal Gayi Rang Men Tere
3. Kishore Kumar & Chorus: O Padosan Ki Ladki
4. Mohd. Rafi & Kishore Kumar: Seedhe Raste Chaloge To
5. Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle & Bhupinder: Kahiye Kahan Se Aana Hua
6. Hemant Kumar: Aaja Mere Pyar Aaja

  2. Quick Google searches dispute your claim about this being Hemant Kumar's final appearance:

  5. hi pc!
a slight diversion for you.. over at my blog i've just posted this fantastic record of very faithful filmi-style music from thailand. besides general music interest, i wanted to test my hypothesis that the songs are all original melodies and thought that with the vast sonic memories of you & the readers of this site, you might be able to pick out if any songs are actually of indian origin. if you need something to do you should come check it out!
    thanks alot, peter.

  6. A great one, one of my favorite Burman works from the late 70s. I cobbled together this album from a variety of sources over the years, some in deplorable quality, so I'll definitely grab this one later.

As for Zeenat's dancing, yeah, I wouldn't consider her a great dancer by any stretch, but I'll forgive her this one time since she was trying to act blind and all. :D

    Thanks again, PC.

  7. Do you have the soundtrack to 1977's Chhaila Babu, by any chance? Laxmikant-Pyarelal and quite fabulously 70's...
