One non-Indian/non Hindi-speaking person's unscholarly exploration of the wondrous sounds of vintage Bollywood film music. Launched in 2006, the original Music From The Third Floor project was completed in 2010. The brief was as follows:
A box of some 150 175 200 Bollywood soundtracks on vinyl; classics,
duds, and those with one or two good songs on them. The plan: Make MP3s
and upload them all here, on a semi-regular basis. And keep going until
I've done the whole box, or otherwise been asked or told to stop by
convincing parties. So enjoy, start dancing, go mad, whatever. Comments
are nice if you'd like to leave any.
MFT3F continues, and will still, at irregular intervals, be updated. It all depends on the frequency of new acquisitions. There obviously won't be a lot going on here if there aren't any soundtracks to post; however during such dry spells it's strongly suggested you follow MFT3F on Facebook and/or Twitter where some activity will be maintained.
Please be aware that MFT3F is not a permanent archive of any record posted. Downloadable files are for educational and/or promotional purposes, only available for a limited time and will be removed upon request. With the possible exception of the samplers, expired links will not be renewed. Once they're gone, they're gone. The good news is, more and more vintage Bollywood soundtracks are now becoming available via conventional outlets.
A Music From The Third Floor guidebook to Bollywood soundtracks is now available to buy.
