Rahul Dev Burman: Samadhi (1972)

Samadhi

'Samadhi' I'm definitely on the fence about... half the time I listen to it I think it's ace, the other half it does nothing for me. Tracks such as Bangle Ke Peechhe, 'O Yara Yara' and 'Jan-E-Janan' are all probably good songs, very uptempo, which I like, but I keep getting the feeling they're lacking in some respect. Not funky or Western sounding enough maybe? Nah. I'm not that one-tracked, am I? Am I?? Nah, it must be something else. Plus, I always like Asha Bhosle's lovely 'Jab Tak Rahe'. I think.

Oh well, the floor is open.

Track listing:
1. Lata Mangeshkar: Bangle Ke Peechhe
2. Asha Bhosle: Jab Tak Rahe
3. Asha Bhosle: O Yara Yara
4. Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar: Main Ne Dekha Ek Sapna
5. Kishore Kumar: Jan-E-Janan
6. Manna Dey: Yeh Khel Hain Taqdeer Ke

  2. Hey PC!
    Thanx as always!
Just was curious to ask - have you changed your ripping procedure after Jawani Diwani? The volume of the albums that followed Jawani Diwani has volume level significantly low than their predecessors.
One more request - can we get say 320 kbps rips of the all the rips coz that will certainly increase the listening pleasure of these precious scores!

  4. Thanks for posting this album. Here is some trivia for you ...

The song 'Bangle Ke Peechhe' was (infamously) remixed a few years ago by DJ Baby Doll as 'Kaanta Laga'.

The actual remix was not so bad, but the video was a bit risque & (in my opinion) took away some of the original beauty of the song. Check it out here :

It is not everybody's cup of tea & resulted in many other similar risque videos of old beautiful songs like 'Yeh Wada Raha' : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9dvLOcOsSM.

  5. Viz: No change as such, but as all ripping (and the settings of this) is done manually, and the LPs themselves have different volume levels, there's bound to be variations. And no, I won't be doing them in 320 kbps. There are several reasons for this, but primarily it's because it actually won't improve the sound. Believe me, I've tried. Most of the vinyl these are pressed on sounds lousy to begin with, and no amount of bit rate-increase will change that. On the contrary in fact, as lower bit rates sometimes help hide the warts.

  7. Just checking back to see what you thought of the remixes.

They are not everyone's cup of tea to be sure, but made the songs famous once again. Otherwise they would just have remained buried on albums like Samadhi.
