A quintessential Bollywood action flic, 'Don' [review] [2] comes with a pretty fine soundtrack to boot, if for no other reason than that it has the ace 'Yeh Mera Dil Yaar Ka Diwana' on it, sung by Asha Bhosle and immortalized on screen by the inimitable Helen. 'Jis Ka Mujhe Tha Intezar' is good as well, a nice slab of Hindi pop with a Pete Townshend-ish guitar intro. The remaining tracks I can take or leave, but on the whole a worthwhile listen. And a very cool cover! Pity though, that they couldn't have made it a full length LP and included the instrumental music from the film - famously redone on the 'Bombay The Hard Way' album.

Kalyanji Anandji: Don (1978)
Once again,you sir,are a certified bad ass.
ReplyDeleteOh, but don't you know that Kishore Kumar won a prestigious Singer of the Year award in 1978 for his electric performance of "Khaike Pan Banaras Wala"? I think it was well deserved. Kumar was a master - at the peak of his power as a playback singer then; and his onscreen partnership with the young Bachchan was a true highlight of Bollywood cinema of the era.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job! I watched 'Don' when I was 6 years old in Bombay at the Sharda Cinema in Dadar and it left an indelible impression. Another great Bachchan movie is the darker 'Zanjeer'.

It's the 'hidden link' more than Divshare I think that doesn't seem to work on all browers. Here's what you do: When you get to the divshare page, you'll find 'link' on the right hand side. Copy/paste that url into your browser... then it should work. :-)
