Laxmikant Pyarelal: Shor (1972)

Shor

I seem to be on a mediocre streak at the moment... which always worries me as newcomers to the blog might think it dull. (Tell them it's not!) Another quickie: 'Shor' is hardly among Laxmikant Pyarelal's finest, but it does have its moments. A pleasant vibe throughout; listen to the chirpy 'Shehnai Baje Ne Baje', as well as 'Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai' with its violin intro and soft rolling rhythm - quite lovely.

(And there are still great scores to come...)

Track listing:
1. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh & Chorus: Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai (Part I)
2. Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Shyama Chittar & Chorus: Jeevan Chalne Ka Naam (Happy)
3. Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Shyama Chittar & Chorus: Jeevan Chalme Ka Naam (Sad)
4. Lata Mangeshkar: Shehnai Baje Ne Baje
5. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh & Chorus: Paani Re Paani
6. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh & Chorus: Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai (Part II)
7. Lata Mangeshkar: Macha Diya Shor
8. Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh & Chorus: Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai (Part III)

  4. Thanx a lot PC! Audio Cd's of particularly this one sucks. Your's quality is awesome! Roti Kapda Aur Makaan - if you have it will be something to watch out for!

  5. Have to disagree with memsaab on this one, I loved the movie & songs !

I think Manoj Kumar really was the bee's knees when he made this movie & 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan'.

The picturization of the song 'Paani Re Paani' is really poignant in the movie.

btw, do you watch Hindi movies or just listen to the soundtracks ? The reason I ask is that some of the songs may sound a bit naff when taken out of context, but when you actually watch the movie they seem far better.

    Thanks so much once again,

    Asli Jat

  6. I agree with Asli Jatt. Shor was a great film. I honestly think it's even better than Roti Kapada Aur Makaan and Purab Aur Pachhim. I'm actually really fond of this soundtrack. Jeevan Chalne Ke Naam, Paani Re Paani and Ek Pyar Ka Nagma are all classics. Great stuff. Thanks a lot. Asli Jatt, did you know Pran was supposed to play Prem Nath's role but decided to do Zanjeer instead?

  7. Viz: Yup, I have Rota Kapada.
Asli Jat: I've seen a dozen or so Hindi movies and I have a small pile of unwatched ones on DVD, but I'm not really a fan. I like the song and dance scenes.

  8. That's interesting, I've always loved the picturization of 'Mein Na Bholon Ga' from 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan' - the camera angles, filters etc.

Here is a link from 'You Tube' :

The other songs are good also, as is the movie itself. I highly recommend you check it out if you get the time ...

Thanx PC, for creating the magic of yesteryears.

  14. Big-A, that definitely sounds like "Mujhe Maar Daalo" from Geeta Mera Naam, which PC has already uploaded here.

That's a pretty cool song BTW, I like the way they sampled Asha Bhosle's voice for the track.

  15. I'm always rubbish at identifying samples, even when I know I've heard or even own the source. Symaster is spot on though, it is indeed Mujhe Maar Daalo, I've just checked. The flute bit is at 1:40, and the voice is 3:20.

  17. wow, so happy to see this soundtrack.. . this is an inconsistent film plotwise, but as far as artistic camera work etc, its one of my favorites... despite the overdramatized beach frolic flashback, and the long drawn out neon light rememberance of his lost wife, the main plot is pretty entertaining.. normally i agree with memsaab but beg to differ on this one.. I think this is my favorite role for Jaya.. she plays the perfect tough girl street urchin.. how could you not love her the way she wrinkles her nose and throws a knockout punch at the same time!! and the picturization of the song "Macha Diya Shor" is really stunning... check the camera shot through the guy's broken spectacles as Jaya dances around him in circles!!! there kaliedescopic swing scene for "Shehnai Baje Na Baje" is great too.
