Kalyanji Anandji: Bombay 405 Miles (1980)

Bombay 405 Miles

All out disco from da funk brothers, one that usually commands high prices on eBay. Which mostly has to do with the hugely popular (it was once anyway) 'Na Na Na - Yeh Kya Karne Lage Ho'. Sexy spoken vocals, panting, giggling; a great Blaxploitation-like groove with horns, wah-wah guitars and moogs... this is the Hindi 'Je T'Aime' (or, Hemlata is the Hindi Donna Summer). Silly, funny and steaming all at once, the definite highlight of 'Bombay 405 Miles'.

Elsewhere 'Are Kya Karron Kya Karoon' has a great intro (reminiscent of 'Diamonds Are Forever' I think) and some nice details spread around, though I find the melody somewhat irritating... 'Are Ho Gaye Hum Aap Ke Kasam Se' starts off very cheesy sounding, like a Tina Charles type hit, but has enough instrumental breaks on it to make it more rewarding than that might entail.

If you liked 'Qurbani' you'll love this. I enjoy it a fair bit; but despite the hype I don't think the album as a whole is as exceptional as it should have been.

Track listing:
1. Kishore Kumar & Mahendra Kapoor: Are De De Dede De De Zara
2. Lata Mangeshkar: Are Kya Karoon Kya Karoon
3. Kishore Kumar & Asha Bhosle: Kasam Na Lo Koyi Hum Se
4. Asha Bhosle & Mohd. Rafi: Are Ho Gaye Hum Aap Ke Kasam Se
5. Hemlata: Na Na Na - Yeh Kya Karne Lage Ho
6. Lata Mangeshkar: Are Kya Karoon Kya Karoon

  7. Thank you a lot for all, i'm very happy you come back.

    All of this seems fantastic.

It's too bad you don't like so much bhapi Lahiri or his disco sound.

Since 15 all my neighbour come from sri Lanka so i made a lot of compilation for me i was crazy about disco dancer or dance dance.

Always when i make dj i put some Lahiri disco. And the public is always crazy. They can't imagine to find some famous songs or so lot of energy.

It's too bad for disc they choose only songs when we hear something like Don the main title is incredible.

But thank you for all it's a real treasure.

I love the old Naushad or 50's and funky Kalanji Ananji too.

In myspace i wrote on Sad Gnome page. It's you or your label?

    Merci beaucoup

  12. Normal, no.

But it happens on occasion... I'm guessing either they didn't have enough material to really fill an album so they reprise a song instead, or the song in question is performed several times in the film so they include it twice in order to represent that.

It's much the same with a lot of (non-Hindi) instrumental soundtracks though; endless variations on what is basically the same theme.
