Laxmikant Pyarelal: Do Raaste (1970)

Do Raaste

Not really what I had expected. With its cool mod-tinged cover art, I had imagined 'Do Raaste' would contain a bit of jazz or Hindi rock 'n' roll à la Burman or something... but it doesn't. Oh, there are some minor traces on the title track, and even a nice psychedelic intro on 'Yeh Reshmi Zulfen'... other than that though, everything here sounds very traditional. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not really for me. Not this album anyway. But have a listen for yourself.

It's composed by duo Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, makers of many a fine score... and an equal number of not so fine. Approach with a bit of caution when it comes to them I reckon.

Track listing:
1. Lata Mangeshkar: Bindiya Chamke Gi
2. Mohd. Rafi: Yeh Reshmi Zulfen
3. Mukesh: Do Raaste
4. Kishore Kumar: Mere Naseeb Men Ae Dost
5. Lata Mangeshkar & Mohd. Rafi: Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara
6. Lata Mangeshkar: Apni Apni Biwi
7. Title Music

  1. I love this blog.

Ever since I saw the GHOST WORLD DVD, I've been developing a greater appreciation for Bollywood sounds.

Thanks! And thank you for the song names and album artwork. Priceless!

  2. Ah yes, 'Jan Pahechan Ho', great isn't it? I'll be posting Shankar-Jaikishan's 'Gumnaam' score (where it's originally from) in the not too distant furture.

  3. So this soundtrack was really popular when it was released. The Bindya Chamkegi song in particular. I think though that it has more impact with the visuals - the star pair of Mumtaaz and Rajesh Khanna were the biggest pairing of that time - and Mumtaaz probably looked better in this song than she ever looked elsewhere!

  4. hi PC

First I must salute you for your wider interest in Hindi films music. As an Indian I alwys like those who like our culture.

    Do raaste :

LPyarelal were the most successful music directors in Bollywood. did over 350 movies. and success rate was lot better then other contempary MDs.

Thier music mostly used to have tradional music of india. Thts why it doesnt much appeals to you.

Two most popular songs of Do rasate were
" bindiya chamkegi" and " yeh reshmi". "bindiya" song was song no1 of tht year in popular Binaca program. and " yeh reshmi julfein" was also v popular. and movie was big hit.

Another popular song was kishore's sad song.
To be frank there was not much for you. it was mostly Tradional indian music and least western !

    one request :

Could you please upload the vinyls. as I havent heard the title music and Title song.

    Thanks

    God bless

    a hfm fan
