Rahul Dev Burman: Seeta Aur Geeta (1972)

Seeta Aur Geeta

Moving on, and quick... from Geet to Geeta, from naff to nifty; another fab RD Burman score. And whereas most Bollywood soundtracks contain, at best, one instrumental or background music piece, this one has three - all wild, all wonderful. Full of the inventiveness that makes Burman the mad musical genius he was. The first is out-of-control Moogs, dramatic strings and surf guitars; the second is bonkers Bollywood mariachi (sort of); the third is sirens, orchestral funk and RD's own frenzied panting. All three storming along at a thousand miles an hour. Zooom!

Good songs on 'Seeta Aur Geeta' [review] as well, a few anyway. 'O Saathi Chal' is 'El Manisero' inspired with loads of cool details, 'Han Ji Han Main Ne Sharab Pi Hai' is gorgeous drunken lounge with a choppy beat, and 'Zindagi Hai Khel' is energetic, percussive... and fun!

This is the stuff my love of Bollywood soundtracks is made of!

Track listing:
1. Asha Bhosle & Manna Dey: Zindagi Hai Khel
2. Manna Dey: Abhi To Haath Men Jaam Hai
3. Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar: Koi Ladki Koi Ladka
4. Music
5. Asha Bhosle & Kishore Kumar: O Saathi Chal

  8. hey pc -

This tag-chatter reminds me: I've been following your blog for a few months now and realized i've never thanked you! How rude! Your blog is the best, not only for the fabulous write-ups of the albums, but most of all for the quality of your uploads. I've downloaded from other sites before, and yours is by far the luv-liest for labelling/tagging all the songs so well. And the LP covers! Fabulous. Thanks again!

(no offense if you're reading, memsaab; i love you 2!)

  9. Glad you like :-)
And yeah, the tagging thing... possibly just me being geeky, but there are about 13000 different tracks in my iTunes library, from ALL manner of sources. Quite a few of them are untagged; those I tend to forget what the hell are, and it annoys me. Hence, the studiousness in that area.

  18. This is a great album, thanks for sharing.

Going back to the tagging of tracks, what do you use ? I had a fantastic program called 'MP3-Info Extension' that allowed multi-file renaming etc. Unfortunately I have now have Microsoft Vista & it doesn't work any more !

    Any advice ?
